Seven Maltese Fintechs Worth Attention

Seven Maltese Fintechs Worth Attention

Malta is a tiny island, but many of the companies based here trade far beyond it. With an EU licence, the euro and English as a working language, a Maltese base gives businesses a direct line to customers across Europe and the wider world.

Here are six fintechs that chose Malta as home and built businesses that reach well past its shores, each in its own way.

1. Moneybase

Moneybase brought payments and investing together in one app for people in Malta. The market noticed quickly. In its very first year it won Best Financial Institution at the Malta Business Awards, and a few months later it picked up Best App at the Tech.mt e-Business Awards.

2. PayDo

PayDo works the way its clients do: across borders. It serves more than 1,000 businesses in 150+ countries, and its founder and CEO Serhii Zakharov has spent the past year on stages from Amsterdam and Rome to London and Dubai. For its EU home, the company settled in Malta, where PayDo EU Ltd is authorised by the MFSA.

The idea behind PayDo is simple: one contract and one integration instead of a long list of payment providers. In 2026 that idea earned shortlist places at the PayTech Awards and the Open Banking Expo Awards, and Serhii received the Excellence in Financial Leadership Award at FinTech Week Dubai.

3. Multitude Bank

Multitude Bank runs digital lending and savings for customers across Europe from its office in Gzira. In 2024 its listed parent group moved its headquarters from Finland to Malta, a clear sign of trust in the island as a place to build a bank.

4. Zastrpay

Zastrpay, founded in 2020, works on something most fintechs have forgotten about: cash. It helps people in Germany and Austria who prefer paying in cash to use it for online purchases. In just a few years it has joined the Prepaid Association of Germany and The Payments Association EU.

5.SiGMA Group

SiGMA started in Malta in 2014 as a single event and has grown into a global events and media group. Today it runs shows on five continents, from Rome and Manila to São Paulo, Cape Town and, in 2026, Mexico City. Its Rome event drew around 30,000 delegates, its biggest crowd yet, and the team of 200+ people still calls Malta home.

6. PayFuture

PayFuture helps online businesses get paid in fast-growing markets, letting them offer the local payment methods customers actually use through one integration. In 2025 its Maltese entity, PayFuture FS MT Ltd, received an electronic money licence from the MFSA, giving the group an EU base to grow from.

7. Paytently

Paytently was only launched in December 2022, and it has moved fast. It connects merchants to a network of acquiring banks and payment providers through one integration, with smart routing for each transaction. In October 2025 it secured a payment institution licence from the MFSA, and it has since grown to 35 people across Malta, Belgium, London and Portugal, with Mastercard and Revolut Pay among its partners.

Malta, a place of opportunity

Seven very different companies, one shared address. A retail app, a global payment platform, a bank, a cash specialist, a global events group and two fast-growing payment firms have all found room to grow here, and most of them serve customers far beyond the island.

An EU licence from Malta opens doors across Europe, and the island’s regulator and growing talent pool make it easier to build. For businesses in almost any corner of finance, Malta offers real room to grow.
